Is this normal?

I picked up a 2021 Renegade Trailhawk last fall and today the engine randomly shut off at a stoplight with a "Shift to Drive" message popping up. Anyone else run into this? Just wondering if i should get it checked

Oh dang. That's not something you want to ignore. It's definitely gonna get worse... everything that "randomly shuts off" is serious. It could be a glitch with the start-stop system or something deeper, so definitely have it scanned.

do you have scanner to scan it for codes? Even if the check engine light doesn't pop up it still might have some codes stored that can be detected with the scanner
